Columned library at Emerald Buddha Temple in Bangkok

Sizes available: 683×1024 | 333×500

The round library at the Emerald Buddha Temple in Bangkok has a column-supported golden roof with many sculpturally ornamented tiers and one tall, center spire. The central building within compound, the temple library’s exterior is covered in detailed gold ornamentation on its roofs, columns, and portico walls.

Unlike most Thai monasteries, there are no resident monks at the Emerald Buddha Temple. The exterior grounds are visited by pilgrims and tourists while the interiors are reserved for the use of the Thai royal family.

This image was photographed in November 1982.
