Kneeling princes hear about plans for Sita's marriage (Thai Ramayana mural at Emerald Buddha Temple)

Sizes available: 1024×683 | 600×400

A Ramayana mural in the Emerald Buddha Temple shows princes gathered to hear how they might compete for Sita’s hand in marriage. Young men kneel on a blue tiled floor in a walled courtyard around two small roofed pavillions where announcement of the competition is being made by men dressed in Siamese royal clothing.

In the Ramayana, princes come to Ayudhya from all the nearby kingdoms to hear that the one who can lift, string, and shoot the bow of Siva will be allowed to marry the beautiful princess Sita.
