Rama dancer draws bow and arrow at Ramayana performance in Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Rama draws an arrow across his bow at a Ramayana dance performance held at Yogyakarta in July 1986. The Rama dancer wears a golden crown and a gold-trimmed red sash across his bare chest. He also wears the “broken sword” pattern batik of Yogyakarta’s royal family over his red print trousers.
Rama wins the right to marry Princess Sita, according to her father’s decree, by being the first to successfully string the bow of Siva. Rama then goes on to use that powerful weapon in many battles against the demons.
