Sita and Rama dancers sit together on floor at performance in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Sizes available: 683×1024 | 333×500

Sita and Rama dancers sit close together on the floor at a performance in Yogyakarta in July 1986.

Sita is in front, gazing forward with her bent legs hidden by her sarong skirt. Rama moves behind her with his left leg bent forward and to the side. Both wear gold crowns and sashes across their chests together with Yogyakarta royal pattern batik cloths wrapped around their waists. Sita’s left hand is bent at the wrist, resting above her knees, with thumb and fingers closed in a loop. Her right hand rests to the side at her hip.

Sita’s calm face and delicate hand gestures display her perfection as a woman. Rama’s close approach behind Sita suggests his quiet love for her.
