A winged demon king Ravana carries off Sita in a dance performance at Yogyakarta in July 1986.
The kidnapping is shown here from behind with the Ravana dancer on tip toes taking off in flight, while the Sita dancer holds on delicately to the back of Ravana’s waistband.
Both dancers wear Yogyakarta style batik sarongs, tall Javanese style crowns, and matching red print scarves.
