Eagle king Sadayu attacks Ravana's chariot (Thai Ramayana mural at Emerald Buddha Temple)

Sizes available: 1024×683 | 600×400

A mural painting at the Emerald Buddha Temple shows the eagle king Sadayu attacking the demon king Ravana after he kidnaps Sita. Sadayu is shown as a great green bird swooping down on the many-armed demon Ravana in his golden chariot. Sita stands at the back of the chariot, with her right arm held up and her left bracing the side of the chariot. Ravana’s charioteer and courtiers are trying to repel the attack.

Sadayu is the son of the mythical bird Garuda, who is the mount of the Hindu god Vishnu. Sadayu also is an ally of the kingdom of Ayudhya. He fights the demon Ravana when he sees him abducting Rama’s wife Sita.
