Demon king Ravana offers treats to Sita (Thai Ramayana mural)
The demon king Ravana offers treats to Sita as seen on a mural at the Emerald Buddha Temple.
In this palace porch room, Sita sits and turns her back to Ravana as he holds out a gift for her. Sita’s head is turned back towards Ravana and she waves a stick in her right hand as though she will fend off Ravana if he comes any closer.
Ravana is so in love with Sita that he visits her everyday and offers her all kinds of jewelry and fine foods to persuade her to care for him.
Sita refuses everything and says that all Ravana’s riches mean nothing compared to Rama’s love. Sita meditates day and night, concentrating on Rama, and refuses all the meals that Ravana offers to her.
