Ravana's palace complex in flames on Thai Ramayana mural at Emerald Buddha Temple

Sizes available: 1024×683 | 600×400

Ravana’s blue tiered roof palace and white walled city is set on fire by Hanuman, leading Ravana and other demons to flee.

Around a single dense complex of palace buildings, several sequential scenes are depicted by repeating characters. At the lower left, Ravana is holding out a torch to set Hanuman (not visible here) on fire. Two of his wives sit behind him to the right on his palace veranda. On the top of the roof, the invulnerable Hanuman, who is now covered with brownish flames, sets the palace complex on fire with his own body. At the lower right, Ravana is fleeing with his same two wives after Hanuman has set the palace on fire.

Fire and smoke burst forth from several areas of the palace complex as one of Ravana’s demons standing on a back wall tries in vain to put out the flames.
