Serpents coil around monkey troops and horse (Thai Ramayana mural at Emerald Buddha Temple)

Sizes available: 1024×683 | 600×400

Demon arrows that become serpents coil around Rama’s monkey troops, as seen in a mural detail at the Emerald Buddha Temple.

This mural detail is filled with images of Rama’s monkey allies wrestling with snakes. Some monkey soldiers with swords grapple with the crawling serpents, while others already lie extended on the ground, their arms and legs bound by the coiling serpents. A horse with a gold leaf saddle and bridle is visible in the upper right.

This image was photographed in August 1984.
