Sita carried on gold palanquin in procession back to Ayudhya (Thai Ramayana mural)

Sizes available: 1024×683 | 600×400

Sita is carried home in a gold palanquin, as seen in a mural at the Emerald Buddha Temple. Dozens of bearers dressed in red, and courtiers dressed in gold and blue, walk carrying Sita’s and Rama’s litters in a grand procession.

After proving her faithfulness by undergoing a fire ordeal, Sita is reunited with her husband Rama. The couple can now head home to the land of Ayudhya because Rama’s fourteen years of banishment are over.

This image was photographed in August 1984.
