Barge carries Rama's allies across river (Thai Ramayana mural at Emerald Buddha Temple)

Sizes available: 1024×683 | 600×400

A simple barge carries Rama’s allies across a river on the way home after they have defeated the demon king Ravana.

The barge in the middle of the river, and both river shores, are covered with people accompanying Rama and Sita home to their rightful kingdom of Ayudhya. The barge only can carry about fifteen people at a time, so the others must wait on the shores for the whole procession to be reunited on the shore in the foreground.

Reddish mountains appear in the background, and one tall tree shades some of those waiting on the near shore. Besides the people and monkeys, two white horses are visible in the lower left.

This image was photographed in August 1984.
