Ecuadorian statue of the crucifixion

Size: 682×1024

A wooden statue of the crucifixion is displayed. A second statue is displayed behind, out of focus.

Roman Catholicism is the official religion of Ecuador and is practiced by 12 million out of 13 million inhabitants of Ecuador. The Church was very influential during the colonial period, mostly through its large land holdings. After independence the influence of the Church was curtailed, but the institution remains very popular among Ecuadorians.
