Shepherd's hut near Otavalo, Ecuador

Size: 1024×682

A small thatched-roof hut sits nestled in a grass-covered hillside. A few horses graze nearby. Hills divided by terraced agricultural plots fill the background.

This photo was taken near Otavalo, Ecuador, which is home to one of Latin America’s most famous markets. A key product in the highlands of Ecuador is Alpaca, made from the coats of llamas. Perhaps this house is a shepherd’s hut used by Andean Indians to watch over their flock of llamas.
