During a multi-day tour of Halong Bay and Cat Ba Island tourists are often herded from bus to motorboat to bus to paddle boat to hiking and back to the bus. I recorded this song, which I consider a lullaby, on a boat ride up the river to a swimming hole. You can hear the sounds of the paddle hitting the water, and someone bailing out the boat underneath the woman’s song. You can also hear the dialogue of some of the other tourists on the boat. One British tourist mentions Hello Kitty, in reference to something the child had.

From my journal:

Long walk to shore — then rowed on leaky boat up river — mother singing to her child behind me, playing with my hair — beautiful water. Got to boat. Went swimming — in pants and tank top. Jumped from top of boat. Very beautiful and refreshing.
