Modes of War

The Spainards and the Mexicans never really stood on common ground. They fought with different weapons, and they had totally different concepts of war. Guns, armor, steel swords, horses, and sailing ships held a decisive advantage over wooden and stone weapons and canoes. The Aztecs were accustomed to rigorous rules of war, such as the taking of prisoners and peaceful, verbal negotiations that took place both before and after a battle. Little did they know the Europeans had come to conquer them at all costs.
