A tuk-tuk is a convenient way of getting around most towns and cities in Southeast Asia. It is a small three-wheeled motorized vehicle that is steered with handlebars versus a steering wheel. It is named after the sound that the two-stroke engine makes as it is idling.
Tourists and locals alike use tuk-tuks like taxi cabs. You and the driver agree on where you are going and what the price will be. It is usually open on both sides, making it a somewhat refreshing way to travel, especially in the humid heat of the tropics. Furthermore, since it is small, drivers will weave in between cars and other traffic and deliver their passengers, if not in a safe manner, in a speedier one.
