Like me, many tourists make Kathmandu, Nepal a destination so that they can arrange a trek through the unparalleled Himalayan mountains. Many businesses and hotels cater to this tourist trade with Western food resturants, thousands of Internet cafes, travel offices, and bars and pubs. Meanwhile, a tourist can also tour ancient Hindu and Buddhist temples, or walk by government buildings typical of a capital city.

Known colloquially as Freak Street (not sure why it has this name), this is one of the main streets catering to tourists in Kathmandu. In this recording, you can hear what it sounds like to walk along the street during the morning. I pass by some examples of open-air businesses, like a jewler and butcher, but also go into a shop to try to make a phone call, so you can hear the difference in the two kinds of retail stores.
