Trekking in the Himalayas in Nepal is not like trekking on the Appalachian Trail. Nor is it the same as climbing Mount Everest. Most tourists take certain routes, either to Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Base Camp, or a shorter route along the same trail. The trails are made of paved stone stairs, they are dotted with villages, and trekkers stay in guesthouses along the way.

Because Nepal attracts tourists from all over the world, it is possible to meet people of many nationalities in the guesthouse dining rooms over breakfast and dinner. On any given night, you might hear German, Japanese, French, English, or a variety of English accents being spoken.

In this brief recording, you can hear some fellow French travelers speaking with their native Nepali guide who has learned French.
