You can expect the unexpected in Nepal, specifically Kathmandu. Since it is the capital in a country where Tibetan Buddhism and Hinduism are both major religions, you never know what temple or religious ceremony you might see, and for the unexperienced Western eye, whether it is Hindu or Buddhist.

I was in Kathmandu at the time of an important Hindu holiday, Diwali, I believe what I have captured here is related to that ten-day festival.

Diwali is the “festival of lights” that is celebrated by Hindus in either October or November. Like Christmas or Thanksgiving, this is a time to enjoy with families and friends. The holiday also celebrates the triumph of good over evil, and is associated with a Hindu legend where Lord Rama killed an evil demon and was guided home by oil lamps people lit to help him see in the darkness.
