I recorded this as I was riding in a trolley with a Nepali politician who had offered to take me to some of the historic highlights of the city. We took this trolley from Kathmandu to the ancient walled city Bhaktapur. As public transportation went, this trolley was quiet and comfortable.

In the recording, you can hear the sound of banging — I believe that is when the ticket taker is alerting the trolley driver that someone wants to get on or off the trolley. This is a typical system in buses and other transport in Asia and other continents. Public transportation involves two individuals — one person in charge of driving, the other person keeps an eye on the people inside and outside the vehicle, and makes sure to get everyone’s fare.
