Lake Batur is one of several volcanic lakes that present spectacular views in the central interior of Bali. Often the active volcanoes emit steam which merges with clouds that frequently cover the area.
The active volcanoes of Bali and Java can be treacherous when they erupt periodically, but the soils they produce are extremely fertile, creating nutrients for abundant rice crops in the future.
