Balinese woman finishes wood statue of fisherman

Size: 686×1024

A Balinese woman kneels on a woven mat painting a coat of finish on a carved wood statue of a fisherman. This blonde wood statue depicts a familiar theme of a rural fisherman wearing a conical leaf hat and holding a net at his side. This kind of statue sells well to tourists who are amazed that Balinese carvers can so skillfully carve a fishing net out of wood.

The woman wears a long patterned purple sarong and a pink jacket. Polishing cloths, sandpaper, and other small statues are visible at the woman’s side and in the background.
