Balinese weathervane and windchime posted on pole

Size: 1024×686

A Balinese weathervane and windchime is posted high in the air on a bamboo pole. A front propeller catches the wind and turns attached flaps of bamboo to create tinkling sounds. A shadow puppet character waving his arms is mounted on the back of this noisemaker.

Originally designed, and still used, to scare birds away from rice fields at harvest, a variety of bamboo windchimes and weathervanes now are carved by Balinese villagers for sale to tourists.
