Offerings placed in Balinese rice field

Size: 686×1024

A square plaited basket of offerings for ancestors and deities rests on a square woven platform at the edge of a ripening rice field. Below the platform is a pile of red flowers and yellowing leaves discarded from the offerings of previous days and weeks.

Most daily offerings consist of flowers, palm fronds, or other plant materials woven in aesthtically interesting patterns. Offerings are placed in Balinese rice fields at every stage of the agricultural cycle. The rice plants here are nearing maturity before the final grain ripening stage.
