a crowd of over twenty men stand in a circle to watch the betting for a cock fight that is about to begin. Two men squat and hold their white roosters in preparation for the fight. One cock is being held up to display his luxuriant tail feathers.
Gambling on cock fights and card games are traditionally favored recreation activities for Balinese men, as depicted in this 1986 photograph. Women do not generally participate in gambling activities except to sell snacks to the audience.
The roosters are pampered and treated well by their owners before the fights in hopes of raising a winning rooster. Most cock fighting is now illegal in Indonesia.
