Two men climb high pole to work on electric lines

Size: 686×1024

Two utilities workers climb a high wooden pole to work on electric power lines. The working men’s profiles are silhouetted on a blue sky with coconut tree tops visible along the horizon below them.

For the tall funeral tower trasnporting the Brahman’s corpse to be carried to the cremation grounds on July 23, 1986, electric lines along the road had to be disconnected.

Although the disconnection cut electric power to local Balinese customers, funeral traditions were considered more important than technological convenience. When the wires were reconnected after the cremation, a generator exploded leaving the local area without electricity for another day until repairs could be made.
