Bathing party among boulders in stream as seen from above

Size: 1024×686

A dozen women and children with brightly colored plastic pails bathe, dress, and do laundry among the boulders in a stream. The scene is viewed from above, probably from a bridge that passes over the waterway.

In rural Bali, as in much of Southeast Asia, outdoor family bathing is a routine social activity that combines work and play. Given the tropical climate, Southeast Asians often bathe two or more times a day, bringing laundry along when necessary. Women and children often bathe together, with men bathing separately before and after their day’s labor.
