Two Balinese dancers in Barong costume

Sizes available: 686×1024 | 335×500

Two Balinese dancers emerge from a gate in an elaborate Barong costume.

Many Balinese dramas involve contests between the evil witch Rangda and her foe, Barong, a mythological creature who looks somewhat like a gilded and furry lion. Two men are needed to enliven the four-legged Barong costume. The Barong costume is considered sacred and thus is stored in the village temple.
