Donkeys resting, white and blue mountains on the background

Size: 675×1024

In Nepal, donkeys walk along a mountain trail. Houses with slate roofs stand in the background, with patches of forests in front of them. On the horizon, a range of snow-capped mountains towers over a rugged range of lower mountains.

Donkeys are the major means of transporting goods from roadheads to different mountain villages. This trail was probably part of the salt trade route, crossing Nepal and Tibet, and extending into various parts of China. This means of trading salt has stopped, but donkeys carry other goods from nearby roadheads.
