Chortens and Tibetan prayer flags in Kagbeni village, Nepal

Size: 1024×694

Chortens — the pagoda-style structures on the side of the road above — were built to memorialize the teachings of Buddha. Some of these Chortens are believed to contain the remains of Buddha. Tibetan prayer flags are placed at many points. These flags are typically colorful panels or rectangular cloths often found strung along mountain ridges and peaks high in the Himalayas. The flags in this picture, however, have faded in the elements.
