looking over mattress and comforter

In this black and white photograph taken in Guilford County on August 13, 1941, Mrs. R. T. Winchester of the Home Agent Department and Mrs. Ida Sowe of Bethel Community look over a mattress and comforter. The items had been made that year for the cotton mattress program. On the wallpapered wall behind the two African American women is a small framed picture of another woman and a North Carolina Public Schools Certificate of Promotion.

The younger woman, in a striped, belted dress standing on the left, is holding up the corner of the mattress with both her hands and is inspecting the underside of it. The older woman, standing on the right is wearing a shirtwaist dress and has her left side to the camera. Her left hand is on her hip and she is holding up a comforter with her right hand.
