food helped make the difference in undernourished children

Size: 607×768

A 1920s, black and white poster, depicting images of children showing poor development due to poor nutrition, is entitled, “Food helped make the difference. Poor physique and low vitality are cruel handicaps.” The poster shows three photographs. The first is of a boy in knickers, with his hands behind his back, standing against a brick wall. The caption reads, “A tired, discouraged, expression and drooping posture, typical of undernourished child.” The second photograph, below left, shows boys wrapped in towels around their waists. They stand with their back to the camera and stand in a row from tallest to shortest. The caption reads, “Undernourished boys — 14 to 16 years of age.” The picture to the right is of young girls standing facing to the left. They are also wearing towels. The caption reads, “Fatigued posture, curved backs, and ‘winged’ shoulder blades.” The base of the poster says, “Undernourishment is rife in America.”
