a group of white children surround a black boy who is sitting at his school desk examining a plant

Size: 1536×1219

In this black and white photograph, a black boy wearing thick-rimmed glasses is sitting at a school desk and examining a plant. The rootball is exposed and he is pulling out a few strands of the root system. Surrounding him and looking on are six other children, all of them white. Behind them, hanging on the wall, are posters that show the growth of trees and plants as well as student drawings.
