  • Farmville's choice: In this lesson, students will learn about rural life in North Carolina at the turn of the century. Home demonstration and 4H clubs implemented many programs to help people learn better farming techniques, ways of preserving food, and taking care of the home. Several North Carolina leaders went to great lengths to ensure the success of these programs. In part of this activity, students help the town of Farmville dedicate a monument to one of those people. 4-H club girl sorting eggs for packaging

An older man and a young girl can be seen standing in front of an egg sorting machine in this black and white photograph. The girl is taking eggs out of a wire basket and placing them on a conveyor to be sorted. The eggs roll into a box on a wooden stand as the man watches. Beside the machine are stacks of boxes made for transporting the eggs.
