This is a color photograph of a steam boiler furnace which originally burned wood and soft lump coal. It would heat water which would become steam that would be used to heat the house. The massive structure is from floor to ceiling in height. Several small doors are open at the bottom of the furnace and a large round door is open above them. The ashes and cinders were removed through the bottom doors. Pipes running along the ceiling of the room can also be seen.
