The Canal Grande (Grand Canal) of Venice is one of two major waterways winding around the city. It serves as a major transportation route where vaporetti, or water buses, and water taxis share the route with all other vessels providing a range of services to the city. Police, fire, ambulance, goods and materials transport as well as any other public are private service use the Grand Canal to navigate the venetian landscape. This view from the Ponte di Rialto (The Rialto Bridge) includes two vaporetti stops along the canal as seen in the left of the photo.
