Evening view of cafes along the Piazza San Marco

Size: 1024×683

The Piazza San Marco, or St. Mark’s Square, is the principal square of Venice, Italy. Unlike other European square of its size, no motorized vehicles can be seen nor heard in or around the piazza since Venetian traffic is by foot or boat on one of its canals. The piazza is a popular gathering place for tourists and is flanked by numerous cafes and St. Marks Basilica. Visitors during the day are either amazed or annoyed by the massive number of pigeons who frequent the square and will perch on any outstreached arm. In the evening, the piazza is a very animated as small orchestras provide lively music for outdoors cafes as seen here.
