This 1765 map depicts the southeastern colonies from southern Virginia to northern Florida (which was, at the time, East and West Florida.) When this map was drawn, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia extended as far west as the Mississippi River. The boundaries of the European colonies were in a great deal of turmoil in 1765: The French and Indian War had ended just two years earlier.
The map also shows the names of most of the inlets along the coast, as well as the locations of major Indian groups in the region.
