This photograph shows blueberries ripening on the bush. There are several species of blueberry (genus Vaccinium) native to North America, and North Carolina in particular. In 2001, the North Carolina General Assembly named the blueberry the official Blue Berry of North Carolina. (They also named the strawberry the official state Red Berry.)
