Bald eagle
The bald eagle, Haliaeetus leucocephalus, is a large raptor with a wingspan that can reach seven feet. Its habitat covers the entire United States and includes northern Mexico and most of Canada. The bald eagle is the official national bird of the U.S.A., but its numbers declined drastically in the mid-twentieth century, in part because of widespread use of pesticides.
