View of the Ganges River in Varanasi, India

Size: 1024×660

This is the busy shore of the Ganges River in Varanasi, India. Three men stand on the edge of the river on a concrete pier and wrap towels around themselves. Behind them on a raised concrete platform, another man sits cross-legged with his eyes closed, as if praying, and another man sits behind him. Further down the bank, several people appear to be washing clothes in the river. There are a line of boats at shore, and there are several boats full of people further out in the river. The labyrinth of buildings that makes up Varanasi is visible all along the curve of the horizon.
