Tika powder for sale in Mysore, India

Size: 1024×661

This photo shows a stand selling tika powders in Mysore, India. The powders are displayed in several shallow metal bowls along a shelf. They have been drawn to a careful point for best display. They come in a variety of shades, including bright yellow, pink, and blue, but most are in deep, rich shades of red and purple. A woman in a blue patterned sari and a pink shirt points out her selection to the man in charge of the stand. Other goods, including food, are also for sale.

These powders are used by Indian women to make the bindi (also known as the tika) on their forehead. Some women even make a stripe of red powder along the part of their hair to signal their marriage.
