The spiny dogfish (Squalus acanthias) is a species of small shark, typically growing to three or four feet in length. Spiny dogfish are typically found in bays and estuaries. Their habitat in the western Atlantic Ocean ranges from Greenland to Argentina, but they are most abundant from Nova Scotia to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
