The shortnose sturgeon (Acipenser brevirostrum) is a species of small sturgeon — a bottom-feeding fish native to the Northern Hemisphere. Shortnose sturgeon are found in numerous river and estuary systems along the Atlantic seaboard from Canada to Florida. They are born in fresh water, and gradually move to the area where fresh and salt waters meet.
