Illustration of an English country woman in 16th century dress, holding a basket.

Sizes available: 566×1032 | 165×300

This image from Charles Knight’s 1845 book, Old England: A Pictorial Museum, shows an English country woman, probably from the late sixteenth or early seventeenth century. She holds a basket on one arm, and wears a muffler — a kerchief worn over part of the face in order to protect it from the sun and wind.
