Photograph of the palisade surrounding the minor temple at Town Creek Indian Mound.

Size: 1023×682

At Town Creek Indian Mound, a recreation of the town’s minor temple has been built on the site of the original, across the plaza from the major temple. The rectangular temple had a thatch roof and walls made of wattle and daub — a wooden frame plastered with mud. A palisade of small logs surrounded the temple, which stood near the river. The minor temple housed ceremonial priests.
