Over millions of years, layers of sediment formed into rock and then erosion has carved the rock into interesting land forms. This can be seen in this photograph taken on the Lost Canyon Loop in the Needles section of Canyonlands National Park. Scrubby vegetation is seen below the rocks survives in the harsh climate of the high desert.
