Cheoah Dam in Graham County, North Carolina

Size: 1024×768

This is Cheoah Dam. The dam was started in 1916 and finished in 1919. It is controlled by Fontana Dam, part of the Tennesee Valley Authority. “Cheoah” is the Cherokee word for “otter.”

This dam was used to film a scene in the 1993 movie The Fugitive starring Harrison Ford. The bridge before the dam is named “Fugitive Bridge,” probably in honor of the movie.
