A waterfall in Gorges State Park

Size: 1024×738

Gorges State Park is the newest park in the North Carolina park system and the only one west of Asheville. It encompasses over 7,500 acres of public land. It is located on the Blue Ridge Escarpment, a place where five streams join near the North Carolina and South Carolina State Line and cascade over several falls and through multiple gorges. The area receives a great deal of precipitation and therefore is a temperate rain forest, supporting many rare species, including some native to tropical areas.
