This is a sign in Spivey’s Corner advertising the area as the “Hollerin’ Capital of the Universe.” The National Hollerin’ Contest, held in Spivey’s Corner since the 1960’s, celebrates the art of hollering, a style of yelling used practically by farmers and folks in rural areas before the widespread use of the telephone.
